Why Get The Fluval Edge Fish Tank?

“God is so lucky,” said my four year old daughter.

“Why is that honey?” I asked

“Because he gots the biggest akuarum (aquarium) in the world and he can watch the fishes and mermaids all day.”

That was almost two decades ago but my daughter still loves anything to do with the ocean and water. From watching the little mermaid over and over as a toddler, to taking up synchronized swimming in elementary school through to high school and studying Marine Biology in college, her world literally revolves around water. So it’s no surprise that I bought her an aquarium as a house warming gift when she moved into her own flat. The Fluval Edge Fish Tank was the ideal choice.

I chose the Fluval Edge Fish Tank upon a friend’s recommendation. When I bought it for my daughter, her eyes lit up like a little girl. It was easy to set up and we had a great bonding session decorating the aquarium with tree roots and plants, copi corals, resin ornaments and colored gravel. My daughter likes white or cream walls and nothing more, so the Fluval Edge Fish Tank, in my opinion contributes a splash of color amidst the simplicity of its surrounding, but still has that modern look to it. The aquarium can take up a lot of water because of the partially sealed glass top, but it all comes down to preference. If you don’t have large plants or ornamental pieces and a handful of fish, you don’t have to fill the water right to the top.

I would have preferred a metal halide unit when it comes to lighting but the halogen lights that came with the aquarium weren’t too problematic. Apart from the occasional need to clean the lights as part of the general maintenance of the Fluval Edge Fish Tank, halogen lights are safer for the environment because they don’t contain mercury. Halogen lights use 25-30% less electricity than brighter light bulbs, and although they do not last long (about 3000 hours), you can opt to replace it with white LED’s. And because halogen lights are dimmable they really combine well with the colored gravel to display the colors in the Fluval Edge Fish Tank to an advantage.

My daughter has had her Fluval Edge Fish Tank (which she insists is the best aquarium) for half a year now and unlike her playful Maltese, she says having fish as pets is low maintenance especially since the hidden filtration system is a great help, considering her busy schedule.

When I visit her I can view the aquarium from every angle because of the Fluval Edge Fish Tank’s overall dimensions of 36.5cm H x 43cm W x 35cm D. It’s a gift that will last a long time and serves as a constant reminder to my daughter of me and reminds me of my daughters love for water and the marine life which has become an integral part of who she is as a person.
